VAIL — If you hustle, then you can still play in this year’s Huskies and Heroes golf tournament.

The 12th annual event is set for Friday at the Vail Golf Club.

It started as a fundraiser for the Battle Mountain football team, and grew as a way to honor members of the military, said Bart Cuomo, one of the event organizers.

The Battle Mountain Touchdown Club sponsors the event.

A few years ago, they started inviting some folks from Fort Carson, and now they have 30 or 40 participants show up with their families.

The military folks appreciate it, Cuomo said, because the Fort Carson is one of those places where reality is always close by.

“If you’re in Fort Carson, you’re going to war,” Cuomo said.

A man emailed Cuomo last year, apologizing for missing it for missing the tournament.

“He had a good excuse. He was in Afghanistan,” Cuomo said.

The tournament costs $150 per player, or $540 per foursome.

Sponsorships cost between $250 and $2,000.

Entry fees cover greens fees, range balls, cart, post-tourney party at the Vail Golf Club, giveaway and a silent auction.

Send your checks to Battle Mountain Touchdown Club, Bart Cuomo, P.O. Box 1895, Vail, CO 81658.

For more information on the event, call Cuomo at 970-476-8800 or 970-471-2351.

The Battle Mountain Touchdown Club is a Colorado nonprofit corporation.
