I-70 closed in Glenwood Canyon after fatality in traffic incident

I70 is closed WB MM133 at Dotsero for a traffic incident in the canyon. There is no estimated time of reopening. Please plan accordingly and use caution in the area.

Interstate 70 is now closed going both directions in Glenwood Canyon due to a traffic incident involving a fatality a half mile east of the main Glenwood Springs exit, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Westbound traffic is being held at mile mark 133 (Dotsero) and eastbound traffic is being held at Exit 116 in Glenwood Springs. Emergency responders are on the scene.

The interstate closure is expected to two hours or longer, according to post on CDOT’s Facebook page.

“This incident involved a fatality, so law enforcement is conducting an investigation,” according to the 8:20 p.m. post. “Crews are working to clear the queue of traffic stuck in the canyon. We will provide updates here as we get information on opening.”

Authorities also report that weather conditions are deteriorating, and motorists are advised to be cautious on area roads.
