I-70 work begins in Vail Tuesday night
VAIL, Colorado Work to put a less noisy surface on Interstate 70 through Vail began Tuesday night.Work is supposed to take place at night only during the next 100 days, the Colorado Department of Transportation says. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph between 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.Our No. 1 goal, bar none, is to keep travelers and workers safe during this project, said Garland Duke, project manager for A&S Construction Company. Our secondary goal is to keep traffic moving and interfere with the traveling public as little as possible without endangering fully reaching goal No. 1. One lane of traffic in each direction will be open as often as possible, Duke said. During the work on- and off-ramps will be repaved, guardrails fixed and portions of the medians will be raised to reduce glare from oncoming traffic. There will progress updates every week in an advertisement in the Vail Daily. There also is hotline at (970)476-4024 where travelers can get information. A Web site also is planned. We simply ask that the general public drive the posted speeds and be aware of their surroundings and I think we will be fine, Duke says.
