In the SnowBall spotlight
VAIL CO, Colorado
Why not take a chance on a band you’ve never heard of? Saturday is the day to do just that at SnowBall. From a cross dressing self-proclaimed “sissy” from New Orleans, to a Denver indie band steadily gaining steam, here are three bands to check out today.
• Cassian (3:45 to 4:45 p.m. in the Heat Hut)
“At age 23, the Australian Cassian is taking the deep and disco house sound to the big stage and will be a big part of defining this genre of house music in the coming decade,” said Latane Hughes who booked this year’s festival lineup.
•-Big Freedia (4:15 to 4:45 p.m. in the Groove Tent)
This New Orleans cross-dressing diva will be one of the “peak party moments of the weekend,” Hughes said. “She just sits up there and shakes her butt the entire concert. It’s real legitimate hip hop. I mean, you wouldn’t want to bring your parents to this show, but she calls people from the audience to get up there on stage and the whole stage is real full, going crazy, party shaking. That will be absolutely wild.
Big Freedia is scheduled to play in the Groove Tent “in between heavy techno guys because it gives people a quick pop in the face of reality, gets them out of DJ techno world for a minute, and brings them into party shaking hour block,” Hughes said.
•-Gauntlet Hair (6:15 to 6:50 p.m. on the Ballroom Stage)
“Gauntlet Hair is the finest indie rock export to ever come out of Denver, in our humble opinion,” said Latane Hughes who booked this year’s festival lineup.
