LEADVILLE — Vail Valley-based yoga and adventure company In Your Element is teaming up with Paragon Guides to host a yoga retreat at Jackal Hut from Wednesday, March 23, through Friday, March 25.
The two-night stay includes a 4.7-mile guided trek (skis or snowshoes) to the hut, four yoga classes, daily guided meditation sessions, journaling and inquiry prompts, seven meals and free time to relax or explore.
“It just seems to fit,” said Will Elliot, co-owner and guide for Paragon Guides. “Every morning when I wake up at a hut, I spend a little quiet time looking out the window at the sunrise, and I stretch my arms into the air to welcome the day in such a beautiful place — I don’t do that in my everyday life.”
Jackal Hut is the eastern most hut owned by the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association. It is located on the western slope of the Continental Divide — about 15 miles north of Leadville at 11,660 feet in elevation.
“With the open floor plans and views of surrounding 14ers, the Jackal Hut provides a warm place in the winter to practice yoga,” Elliot said.
In You Element co-founders Kim Fuller and Mariah Schuette will lead yoga and meditation classes in the hut. Guides will provide nourishing breakfasts and dinners, and participants bring their own snacks and lunches.
“This is a great opportunity to explore the 10th Mountain Huts in a unique way,” Fuller said. “It’s an incredible chance to get out into the elements and up to a high-alpine hut, with time and space to enjoy backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, yoga, good food and like-minded people.”
Paragon Guides and In Your Element will provide professional ski guides and yoga teachers. Sleeping bags, food and limited beverages are supplied upon arrival at the hut to help participants pack a little lighter.
Open to 12 participants, the retreat is $950 and registration ends Friday, Feb. 5. Half of the cost is due at registration, and the remainder is due by Tuesday, March 1.
