BOULDER – The bluegrass-inspired jam band String Cheese Incident, who earned a loyal fanbase after touring relentlessly for 13 years, has decided to break up.

According to a message posted on the band’s Web site (, SCI will play only a handful of shows between now and summer 2007, when Bill Nershi will leave the band to pursue other musical projects. Current plans for concerts include Thanksgiving in Atlanta, a New Years Eve blowout in San Francisco, Winter Carnival in Colorado and a return to Red Rocks. There are no shows on the books beyond summer of 2007.

Also in the message was: “The band would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our friends and fans for all your support.”
