Independent candidate for Eagle County sheriff makes the ballot
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado – James van Beek’s campaign for Eagle County Sheriff took a step forward Monday.
Eagle County Clerk and Recorder Teak Simonton said Monday that van Beek, who’s running as an independent, had collected enough valid petition signatures to earn a spot on the November ballot. He’ll face the winner of an August primary for the Republican nomination. Incumbent Republican Joe Hoy is running against challenger Charles Wolf, who’s currently a deputy with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
While van Beek, a former Eagle County deputy, waits to see who he’ll face, he’s finishing up his current job for the U.S. State Department, serving as a police officer in Afghanistan. International police work has also taken van Beek to Serbia, where he worked for the United Nations. He expects to be back in the U.S. in late summer, just in time to start the fall political campaign.
