Injured hiker airlifted to Aspen

BASALT, Colorado ” At approximately 1:40 a.m., this morning, rescuers successfully carried the injured female out of Carter Lake. She was transported to Aspen Valley Hospital by ambulance.
Search and Rescue efforts for a 14 year-old female that reportedly injured herself while hiking on a trail near Carter Lake which is in the Holy Cross Wilderness Area have concluded. The search was initiated immediately following a 911 call that came in the Vail Public Safety Communication Center at 2:30 p.m .reporting the incident.
A Flight for Life helicopter out of Summit County was airborne by 3:25 p.m .and landed in the area of the victim at 3:53pm, but could only land within a mile and a half of the victim.
Volunteers from Western Eagle County Search and Rescue and the Vail Mountain Rescue Group are in the process of safely transporting the female to a helicopter so she can be airlifted to an area hospital.
The female was hiking with a group of 8-10 other people. One of the adults in the group had a satellite phone in which they made the 911 call for help. The group had been hiking in the area since Saturday.
