Injured skier rescued after falling into ravine
SARGENTS PURCHASE, N.H. (AP) – An injured back country skier has been rescued from a ravine on Mount Washington.
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say 32-year-old Dalton Harben of Newton, Pa., had suffered a severe knee injury when he slid down into Ammonoosuc Ravine on Tuesday.
A friend who was skiing with him called 911 on a cell phone.
Rescuers used a National Guard helicopter to remove him from the ravine Tuesday afternoon. They secured him to a hoist that lifted him into the helicopter.
Officials say Harben was flown to a hospital in Littleton where he was treated for a severe but non life-threatening knee injury.
