International Evenings of Dance features classical, contemporary

VAIL – Principal couples from eight different international ballet companies will be on display over the course of the two evenings, Aug. 5-6, at the Ford Amphitheater during the Vail International Dance Festival’s International Evenings of Dance.

Principal couples for 2005 include April Ball and Jens Weber of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Paloma Herrera and Marcelo Comes of American Ballet Theatre, Caroline Gaier and Inaki Urlezaga of Inaki Ballet Concierto, Tamara Rojo and Inaki Urlezaga of The Royal Ballet of London, Faye Leung and Zhang Yao of the Hong Kong Ballet, Agnes Oaks and Viacheslav Samodurov of the English National and Royal Ballet of London, Cristiane Quintan and Rene Salazar of Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and Sharon Wehner and Koichi Kubo of Colorado Ballet.”Since the International Evenings of Dance became part of the festival in 1993,” said Katherine Kersten, producing artistic director of the festival and originator of the International Evenings of Dance, “the popularity and enthusiasm surrounding these gala all-star performances has grown literally by leaps and bounds. Having artists of this caliber on one stage together truly sets the Vail International Dance Festival apart and makes it an experience one would be hard pressed to fine elsewhere.”

Because of prior commitments, Inaki Urlezaga, Caroline Gaier and Tamara Rojo will be featured in the Aug. 5 performance only, while Sharon Wehner and Koichi Kubo will dance on Aug. 6. All other couples are slated to perform both evenings.The 2005 Vail International Dance Festival is scheduled from Saturday through Aug. 7, with performances at both the Ford Amphitheater and the Vilar Center for the Arts in Beaver Creek.



Tickets for all performances of the 2005 Vail International Dance Festival are currently on sale and are priced from $17 to $85. A variety of packages are also available, including Dine and Dance ($60) and Performance Plus ($55).
