BEAVER CREEK — The Vilar Performing Arts Center will present one of today’s most internationally sought-after string quartets, the Minguet Quartet, on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Taking its name from an 18th-century Spanish philosopher who attempted to make the fine arts available to the masses, Germany’s Minguet Quartet brings to Beaver Creek its homage to Glenn Gould, featuring the Johann Sebastian Bach fugal music Gould loved so much, a Bach concerto Gould loved to play (featuring German pianist Andreas Klein) and Gould’s own rarely heard string quartet.

In 2010, Minguet Quartet was awarded the coveted ECHO Klassik, one of the most important prizes in classical music. Recently, the quartet won the Diapason d’Or together with the Huelgas Ensemble for the requiem “Et Lux,” by Wolfgang Rihm.

Described by the New York Times as “a fascinating artist with all the indispensable qualities: temperament, taste, touch, tone, the four T’s of pianism” and “a pianist who makes silences sound like music,” Klein has distinguished himself as a dynamic and compelling performer with his command of wide range of tonal colors and imaginative interpretations. His career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world’s most prestigious venues, and as a chamber musician, Klein has collaborated with some of the finest ensembles.
