Intralase returns to profit; backs 2005 earnings view

IRVINE, Calif. – Software and services company Intralase Corp. returned to a third-quarter profit as revenue rose.The Irvine-based company Tuesday said it earned $2.39 million, or 8 cents a share, on revenue of $22.9 million in the third quarter.Analysts were expecting earnings of 6 cents a share on revenue of $22 million, according to Thomson Financial.Intralase shares rose $2.21, or 16 percent, to close at $16.32 Tuesday on the Nasdaq Stock Market.In the same period a year earlier, it lost $3.15 million, or $1.37 a share, on revenue of $15.5 million.In the most recent quarter, the company had on average 31.2 million common shares outstanding, up from 2.3 million a year earlier.Intralase, which expects its fourth quarter to account for about half of its full-year net income, expects 2005 revenue of more than $95 million and earnings for the year of 33 cents to 37 cents a share.Analysts expect the company to post full-year earnings of 32 cents a share and revenue of $95 million.In 2004, the company posted a loss of $1.28 a share while revenue was just short of $60 million.Analysts also expect the company to post fourth-quarter earnings of 15 cents a share. In the fourth quarter of 2004, the loss was 12 cents a share.Vail, Colorado
