IronKids Avon Triathlon takes place Sunday

AVON, Colorado – IronKids will hold its sixth event of the national triathlon series in Avon on Sunday, for kids six to 15 years old.

The triathlon begins at 8 a.m. at Harry A. Nottingham Park and The Avon Recreation Center. Participants will swim in an indoor pool at the recreation center, bike on closed roads along West Beaver Creek Boulevard and run along a scenic paved trail.

All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group and the top five finishers in each age group will qualify for the IronKids National Championship on Oct. 4 in Tucson, Ariz.

Distances for the IronKids Triathlon will vary, depending on the age of participants:

• Junior (ages 6 to 8): 50-yard swim, 2-mile bike and 500-yard run

• Intermediate (ages 9 to 11): 150-yard swim, 4-mile bike and 1-mile run

• Senior (ages 12 to 15): 300-yard swim, 8-mile bike and 2-mile run
