Israel’s Gaza offensive defended, protested in Denver
DENVER, Colorado ” Hundreds of people gathered outside the Colorado Capitol on Sunday to defend Israel’s military offensive in Gaza as an act of self-defense, while across the street, hundreds of supporters of Palestine called for an end to fighting.
Crowd estimates varied, but Denver television stations estimated at least 2,000 people protested and defended the Israeli incursion.
Police kept the groups from crossing the street. No arrests were made.
Tens of thousands of people in Europe, the Middle East and Asia demonstrated on Sunday against Israel’s offensive.
Gaza health officials say nearly 870 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its campaign Dec. 27 to stop rocket fire from the militant Palestinian group Hamas.
