Italian Saxophone Quartet will take the stage in Beaver Creek
Vail CO, Colorado
BEAVER CREEK, Colorado ” Four masters of their art will come together onstage in Beaver Creek Wednesday as the Italian Saxophone Quartet plays at the Vilar Performing Arts Center. Quartet leader Federico Mondelci performed as a soloist last winter with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. Wednesday he brings his accomplished and critically acclaimed quartet back to the Valley for an encore.
Formed in 1982, the Italian Saxophone Quartet brings together four of the most established soloists in the field. Comprised of Mondelci on soprano saxophone, Marco Gerboni on alto saxophone, Mario Marzi on tenor saxophone and Massimo Mazzoni on baritone saxophone, the group has performed all over the world and won numerous chamber music competitions.
They were awarded first prize in the ‘Premier Ancona’ by Goffredo Petrassi, a high honor in the field. The group’s interpretations of contemporary music have received special recognition, and this is an area of the repertoire that the Quartet has continued to promote through their performances.
A complimentary pre-performance discussion will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the theatre. The discussion offers insight into the evening’s performance, providing an enhanced appreciation of the repertoire, which includes pieces by Bach, Mozart, Gershwin, Porter and Piazzolla, to name a few.
Tickets for the Italian Saxophone Quartet are $40 and are available by calling the Vilar Center Box Office at 845-TIXS(8497) or by visiting vilarpac.org.
