Special to the Vail DailyItalian winemaker Andrea Lonardi of Castello Monaci and Re Manfredi will lead a wine tasting at Vin48 in Avon on Monday night.

AVON – Avon restaurant and wine bar, vin48, is hosting two Italian focused wine tastings this week. Tonight winemaker Andrea Lonardi of Castello Monaci and Re Manfredi will lead a wine tasting. On Wednesday, George Schwartz, director of education for Italian importer Vias, will lead a tasting. The events kick off the restaurant’s summer tasting series. The events will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight and Wednesday in the restaurant’s wine bar.

“What a better way to get the summer tasting Series rolling than to have two great Italian tastings,” said Greg Eynon, part-owner of vin48. “We are fortunate to host a rising star in Italian wine making, Andrea Lonardi, who will pour his delicious Southern Italian wines. On Wednesday, guests will be treated to a little education with their libation with Italian wine guru George Schwartz.”

Wednesday’s tasting theme is Giro d’Italia, or the classic wines of Italy, with wine educator George Schwartz pouring Italian classics like prosecco, chianti and brunello.

Every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., the restaurant will serve wines from visiting winemakers, importers and industry insiders, paired with chef/owner Charles Hays’ cuisine. All the wines served are available for purchase at discounted prices from Beaver Liquors in Avon.
