Jack-knifed semi hits pedestrian near Wolcott
Vail, CO Colorado
EDWARDS, Colorado – A semi collided with a man who was standing outside his car just east of the Wolcott exit on Interstate 70 on Thursday morning, police said.
The man was taken to the Vail Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.
Witnesses say the truck was going westbound when it jack-knifed, colliding with the man and his vehicle, which were off the right side of the road, the State Patrol said.
The man was standing outside his car along with several other vehicles that had slid off the road, police said. The semi fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement authorities.
More than a foot of snow has fallen in the Vail Valley as of Thursday morning.
Interstate 70 westbound was closed at the Edwards exit for several hours following the accident, but it has since reopened.
