VAIL – Between playing guitar for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and touring to promote his band and new album, Jamie McLean is focused on his music. He and his band will be flying out to Colorado from New York Monday for the Jamie McLean Band’s first appearance in the state. The band, with Jamie on guitar and lead vocals, his brother Carter McLean on drums and percussion, Derek Layes on bass, Jon Solo playing organ, piano, keyboards and Shelby Johnson backing vocals, will start in Boulder and end in Denver with stops in Breckenridge and Vail in between. The band, which is a reunion of sorts for Jamie McLean, Carter McLean and Layes from their Boulder band One Flight Up, is coming into its own.

‘We’ve really gelled and started to develop our sound,” Jamie McLean said. “It’s really rocking.”McLean described the band’s music as rock ‘n’ roll based with soulful blues roots. There’s also a good blend of singer/songwriter elements and catchy lyrics, he said.”People have told me it’s ready for the radio. I’ve heard people say they’ve had problems falling asleep and wake up walking around singing my songs,” Jamie McLean said. “It’s definitely a compliment.”The lead singer said the band brings good energy to the stage”We want to get (the audience) up and going,” he said, “whether you’re rocking out on the dance floor or shaking your head sitting at the bar.”

He said the group’s sound has been compared to the Black Crows, the Rolling Stones and Van Morrison.Jamie McLean produced and wrote the music and lyrics for the Jamie McLean Band’s album, “This Time Around,” released in May.The band will be in the mountains Wednesday in Vail at 8150.=========
