January was wetter and warmer

AVON – January brought warmer and wetter weather than what has been the norm. Average daily temperatures – 27.5 degrees – were three degrees higher than the 10-year average, according to records kept by Avon weather watcher Frank Doll, who has been tracking weather readings since 1968.The highest temperature was 44 degrees on Jan. 10, 19 and 28. The lowest, 2 degrees, occurred Jan. 14.Significantly more snow – 26.8 inches – fell in January. The average is 18.5 inches. That snow contained 2.24 inches of meltwater.”It was crazy weather,” said Doll. “There’s no consistency to it at all.”Vail, Colorado
