Colorado enters a new political era at 11 a.m. Tuesday, when Democrat Jared Polis is to be sworn in as the state’s 43rd governor.

He will be the first openly gay man to assume any state’s highest office.

Polis, who previously represented Boulder and other northern Colorado communities in Congress, handily won election over Republican state Treasurer Walker Stapleton.
