Jars of salsa found in bomb scare
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL ” Two jars of salsa were responsible for police closing down a part of the Vail Transportation Center for almost two hours Thursday afternoon, police said.
A woman called 911 about a suspicious package in a restroom in the southwest corner of the parking garage at 4:51 p.m., said Officer Jim Applegate of the Vail Police Department.
Police found a one-foot by one-foot cardboard box wrapped with duct-tape and no shipping information, so they called bomb technicians to the scene, Applegate said.
Police opened it after a dog sniffed the package and found no bomb, he said.
Inside, they found two jars of salsa and a note.
“It turned out it was a package of salsa someone was shipping to a friend,” Applegate said.
Police did not evacuate the structure, said Vail police Chief Dwight Henninger.
They closed the second level and top level to incoming traffic, but allowed people to leave, he said.
The name of the woman, a Vail resident, was not available Thursday night, Applegate said.
No one has claimed the salsa, he said.
