Jazz Aspen Snowmass announces lineup

ASPEN, Colorado Smokey Robinson, The Allman Brothers Band and are scheduled to perform at this summers Jazz Aspen Snowmass Festival from June 18-27. For the first time, the Jazz Aspen Snowmass will overlap the Aspen Food & Wine Classic,The first weekend of the musical festival will feature three shows at the Benedict Music Tent, starting June 18 with the return of British singer/songwriter/pianist Jamie Cullum, who made first played the festival in 2006. Top selling jazz trumpeter and recording artist Chris Botti will take the stage on June 19 with a special guest vocalists still to be announced. Botti is currently being featured in a PBS special with the Boston Pops airing nationally. Closing the first weekend will be Smokey Robinson, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Mowtown on June 20. On June 24 there will be a special performance at the Belly Up by jazz vocalist/bassist Esperanza Spalding and the unique vocal play of Naturally 7. The weekend continues June 25-27 with free daily performances on the Cooper Mall Free Stage and evening concerts featuring the Christian McBride and the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy Summer Sessions bands at the Crystal Palace. There also will be shows the Belly Up. On June 27, five-time Grammy winner Al Jarreau will perform with the full Aspen Music Festival and School Symphony Orchestra. Jazz Aspen Snowmass and the music school will collaborate again on July 25 when Natalie Cole performs the music of Nat King Cole at the Benedict Music Tent. She will be joined by her band and the music school orchestra. The Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival will take place at Snowmass Town Park from Sept. 4-6. Michael Franti and Spearhead will play Sept. 4, Black Eyed Peas will play Sept. 5 and The Allman Brothers Band plays Sept. 6. The Allman Brothers concert in Snowmass in 2007 was the largest in the festivals history. Also performing on Sunday will be the Doobie Brothers and the Drive-By Truckers.
