Jazz in a church? Not a trick, it’s an early October treat tonight at Eagle River Presbyterian Church, and it’s open to the public.

Called “Jazz in Sacred Spaces,” the jazz trio of piano, bass and drums, plus a video improviser, will perform free of charge at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, located at the end of Nottingham Ranch Road in east Avon between the railroad and Highway 6, just south of Walmart and Home Depot.

The ensemble consists of Bob Ravenscroft on piano, Dwight Kilian on bass and Rob Moore on drums. All have recorded and performed nationally. Mario Barnabe handles video effects.

The concert combines jazz standards and improvisation in a passionate and spiritual experience.

Ravenscroft is a board member of the Vail Jazz Festival and a seasonal resident of Beaver Creek. A Ravenscroft piano, manufactured by a company he organized a few years ago, was featured at this year’s Vail Jazz Festival.

A free will offering will be taken. Call 970-748-0040 to learn more.
