VAIL – The Vail Jazz stage provides the soundtrack to the Vail Farmers’ Market each Sunday. The rhythm section sets the beat, and everyone swings along on Meadow Drive. The free Jazz at the Market series of concerts continues today on the Vail Jazz Festival stage across from Marketplace on Meadow Drive, featuring the Jeff Jenkins Trio.Jenkins has played the market annually for years. “We dig playing the market,” said Jenkins, a pianist, composer and producer who moved from New York to Denver in the ’90s. “There’s a unique energy at the market that we love to hook into. The scene can’t be duplicated.” Jenkin’s music is jazz and jazz influenced. Think of Bill Evans, John Coltrane meets Joe Zawinul, meets Medeski, Martin & Wood. His latest CD, “Another Way,” features jazz legend John Abercrombie and New York heavyweight Bill McHenry. The Vail Jazz Foundation presents the blues, standards, vocals and straight-ahead jazz at the Vail Farmers’ Market from noon to 3:30 p.m., each Sunday through Aug. 29. The show goes on, rain or shine.
