GYPSUM ” They have a great thing going at the Vail Valley Jet Center, according to the people who fly in and out of there.

For the third straight year the Vail Valley Jet Center at Eagle County Regional Airport has been named one of the best fixed-base operators in the United States. It’s the highest ranked FBO in Colorado, according to a survey by Aviation International News Survey.

It’s the third straight year the Jet Center has been in the Top 20, which is a little like being the New York Yankees of the aviation world, only the Jet Center folks hit their home runs in the snow.

“What is special about this recognition is how seasonal our mountain airport is,” Jet Center President Paul Gordon said. “The majority of our customers visit our airport over the busy winter holidays, when we are at our busiest and the weather is at its worst.”

Gordon said the award is all about the staff and what they’re willing to do, things like working in blizzard-like conditions, de-icing about anything that’s not moving, shoveling snow off the wings, maybe even swapping jokes with a customer when the occasion calls for it.

“We have a great bunch of people working with us,” Gordon said. “They are hard-working, determined people who rise to the occasion. They take pleasure in serving others and look forward to working some place that greatly benefits our towns, our businesses and our county.”

The survey questioned pilots, flight crews and passengers.

U.S. jet centers were rated in the areas of service, passenger amenities, pilot amenities and facilities. The Vail Valley Jet Center ranked 19th out of roughly 4,000 FBOs for the second consecutive year.

A fixed base operation is an airport facility that provides fuel and other services for planes, pilots and passengers.

“Our wonderful staff is committed to exceeding the expectations of everyone who touches down at Eagle County Regional Airport,” Gordon said. “What makes this survey important is that it reflects the opinions of the flight crews and business people we serve. We really do make people feel special when they land in Eagle County.”

The Vail Valley Jet Center provides more than 136,000 square feet of hangar space, 20 acres of ramp, an upscale passenger facility with in-house catering and a full range of services and recreational opportunities for passengers, pilots and crews.

“The fact that the Vail Valley Jet Center rated so highly is a positive indicator that they are providing excellent service at all times of the year at this very seasonal airport,” Eagle County Regional Airport Manager Ovid Seifers said. “The efficiency and service at the jet center really supports the overall success of the airport.”
