Jewish community center gets green light in Aspen

ASPEN, Colorado ” The Aspen City Council gave its preliminary approval Monday night for redevelopment of the Silver Lining Ranch property on Aspen’s east side into a Jewish community center.
But council members told planner Alan Richman, who represented the developer of the center, that they were concerned about traffic impacts to the Ute Avenue neighborhood, which skirts the bottom of Aspen Mountain and leads to the Aspen Club complex as well as to the Jewish center site.
Council member Jackie Kasabach said she had worked at The Gant condominiums for 28 years and had watched Ute Avenue become “almost a superhighway.”
Richman, however, said he would bring consultants and a detailed traffic analysis to the public hearing on the proposal, scheduled for April 27.
