John Brown’s Body returns to Avon

Special to the Daily

Considered by many to be the foremost purveyors of modern American reggae today, John Brown’s Body returns to the Vail Valley Wednesday night, with a show at Agave in Avon. The music begins at 10 p.m. The band’s previously scheduled Agave show in December 2010 was sold out, but a massive snowstorm on the East Coast prevented the band’s departure and the show was canceled. Anticipation is high for this visit.

“John Brown’s Body is the best stateside reggae act period,” said the show’s promoter, Crawford Byers. “We were bummed when they canceled last year’s sold out show due to inclement weather and resulting travel issues. There’s just not enough great reggae acts touring anymore, and it hurt to miss these guys. This much delayed ‘make-up date’ should be a huge party.”

John Brown’s Body describes its sound as “future roots,” with a foundation in roots reggae music that’s given a modern twist with funk and dub.

They’ll be joined by local New Orleans funk favorites Frogs Gone Fishin. Call 970-748-8666 to learn more.
