Joy Behar, of ‘The View,’ set to speak in Vail on July 15
VAIL — Joy Behar, a member of the cast of “The View” for 16 years — for which she won an Emmy — will be the featured speaker at the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group’s 20th anniversary Celebration of Life luncheon. The annual event will be held on July 15 at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort and Spa.
Armed with a master’s degree in English education, Behar originally began a career in teaching before pursuing comedy professionally. Whether performing standup comedy or interviewing politicians and artists, she is a leading woman on both stage and screen. She hosted “The Joy Behar Show” on HLN and “Say Anything” on Current TV.
Behar has received numerous honors, including TV Guide’s “Personality of the Year,” and the Gracie Allen Tribute Award from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television.
“Once again, the entire Vail community will welcome a tremendous advocate for women’s well-being,” said Kristin Kenney Williams, president of the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group. “Joy Behar is the perfect guest speaker to enlighten us, make us laugh, make us cry, make us laugh louder and inspire us as we celebrate together so many incredible accomplishments in raising awareness around the importance of early detection.”
A Time for reflection
For Patti Weinstein and Brenda Himelfarb, co-founders of the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group, the 20th anniversary is a time for reflection.
“Patti and I are so grateful to the (Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group) board members who, for the past 20 years, have given so much to making our dream of supporting breast cancer awareness in Eagle County come true,” Himelfarb said. “I still remember our first meeting in my apartment and the enthusiasm that filled the room.”
“None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our incredible, unselfish community,” adds Weinstein. “From the beginning, it has been the generosity of the community — both individuals and businesses — that has allowed us to help hundreds of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and, as well, to support the Shaw Regional Cancer Center in advancing its treatment of breast cancer patients.”
