Judge won’t block drilling leases on Colorado’s Roan Plateau
DENVER, Colorado ” A federal judge has rebuffed a request by environmental groups to block federal land managers from issuing leases for natural gas drilling on the Roan Plateau in western Colorado.
U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger on Wednesday refused to issue an injunction that would keep the Bureau of Land Management from issuing leases for the plateau, which is prized for its abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery as well as its vast gas reserves.
Krieger says it’s clear no drilling could start until next June or later, leaving plenty of time for her to hear arguments and issue a ruling in a broader lawsuit the environmental groups have filed.
The lawsuit claims the BLM didn’t analyze the long-term environmental impacts of the drilling plans or consider a reasonable range of alternatives.
