Junie B. Jones visits Beaver Creek
Beaver Creek, CO Colorado
BEAVER CREEK, Colorado “-The Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado will come alive Wednesday as Theatreworks USA presents a musical stage adaptation of the beloved children’s books “Junie B. Jones” at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The performances are presented as part of the Support the Arts Reaching Students (STARS) series for area youth, with tickets also available for public purchase for $11 for children and $14 for adults.
The New York Times wrote that “Junie B. Jones” showcases “the adventures of a first grader ” with music as sassy as she is!”
The musical is based on children’s books by Barbara Park, and brings the outspoken, precocious, lovable Junie B. Jones to life. This colorful, funny, fast-paced musical brings to center stage many issues that children of all ages can relate to: new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament and other various first-grade angst-ridden situations. Follow the adventures of Junie B. Jones as she writes down the story of her life in her “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal.” With songs including “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax,” “Camille, Lucille, Chenille,” “You Can Be My Friend” and “Lunch Box,” this engaging musical production keeps young audiences moving in their seats, while also commenting on real issues close to their hearts.
After a brief New York City-area tour in spring 2004, “Junie B. Jones” premiered off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in July 2004, and is now one of Theatreworks USA’s most popular productions. The show was nominated in 2006 for the Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Choreography.
The musical is based on four volumes in Barbara Park’s “Junie B. Jones” series of books, which are illustrated by Denise Brunkus and published by Random House. The musical adaptation by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich is directed by Peter Flynn and choreographed by Devanand Janki. The scenic design is by Luke Hegel-Cantarella, and the costumes are by Lora LaVon.
