K-9 squad headlines war memorial fund-raiser
EAGLE – A K-9 squad from the U.S. Air Force Academy will be at the Eagle County Fairgrounds Thursday for a St. Patrick’s Day fund-raiser for the war memorial being built in Edwards. The memorial, known as Freedom Park, will commemorate local veterans of American wars along with firefighters, police officer and other public safety workers who have died in the line of duty.
Air Force K-9 units are used to find explosives and in other military operations. Agbar, the dog that will visit Eagle Thursday, was deployed along with his handlers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, organizers say. A piece of debris blown off the Pentagon during the Sept. 11 attacks also will be on display at the fund-raiser, which is sponsored by the Eagle County High Country Republican Women. The rock will later be displayed in the Edwards’ war memorial. Cost for the lunch is $15 for adults and $5 for kids. The corned beef and cabbage has been donated by Bubba Gump Shrimp of Breckenridge
All proceeds will go to the Freedom Park Memorial. For more information or to make reservations call Diane Hutchinson at 328-0621.
