Karen M. Smith, 1932-2008

Karen M. Smith of Denver passed away Nov. 24, 2008. She was born May 9, 1932, in Rawlins, Wyo., to Russell B. and Corinne (Kinnaman) Millay.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James R. Smith; children David Smith and Donald Smith; sister Karla Sorensen of Lakewood; and brother John R. (Janet) Millay of Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.

Karen was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Denver and received her master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. During her life, she was a schoolteacher, successful artist and businesswoman. After selling her catering business, The Good Table, in Colorado Springs, she and her husband moved to Vail, where they resided for over 10 years.

In Vail, she was a member of the Art in Public Places Comittee, a volunteer at the Betty Ford Gardens, a volunteer for the Bravo Guild and was the founder of the Vail PEO chapter IG.
