Kathy Griffin shakes gut at the Vilar Center
Chicago native Kathy Griffin is a multi-faceted performer who is probably best known for her 4-year stint on the NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan” as Brooke Shields’ acerbic colleague. She performs her stand-up act at the Vilar Center April 2 at 7:30 p.m.
After moving west and joining the famed Los Angeles Groundlings comedy improvisational troupe, Griffin began building her resume with guest-starring roles on such series as “Mad About You,” “ER,” “Ellen,” and also appeared as the recurring character Sally Weaver on “Seinfeld.”Soon Griffin began gaining notice as a stand-up comedian and landed her own “HBO 1/2 Hour Comedy Special.” In 1998, HBO gave Griffin her own one-hour special, “A Hot Cup of Talk.”
Griffin has supplied voices for characters on the animated series “Dilbert” and “The Simpsons,” and she appeared in a dual role on the “X-Files” as well as in Eminem’s video, “The Real Slim Shady,” co-directed by Dr. Dre. She co-hosted The Billboard Music Awards three years in a row; appeared on numerous talk shows including “Late Night with David Letterman” and “Live with Regis and Kathy Lee,” and she has been featured in the films “Pulp Fiction,” “The Cable Guy,” “It’s Pat,” “Four Rooms,” “Muppets From Space” and the animated feature “Lion of Oz,” among others.
She participated in and won “Celebrity Mole” on ABC, hosted the NBC reality series “Average Joe” and recently hosted the MTV series “Kathy’s So-Called Reality.”Griffin’s most recent stand up comedy special, “The D-List,” has just finished its run on Bravo. Griffin has just released her first DVD, “Allegedly,” which is in stores now and is also currently in production on her new reality show “Kathy Griffin: Life on the D List” that will air on Bravo in late 2005.
