Keep those prayers coming

Gary Wingo

God answers all prayers. Do you believe that? It’s true – when we pray and God doesn’t answer our way? That’s when we get in trouble. Can you imagine what the world would be like if we all got exactly what we requested from the almighty? We don’t know what tomorrow holds or what our future ought to look like. God sees all, has our best interest in mind, and answers our prayers in a way that shapes our character and draws us closer to him.Let’s continue with The Lord’s Prayer – and trust that Father truly does know best: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one,” Matthew 6:9-13.- Our daily bread – today, I received an awesome gift – another glorious sunrise breaking forth over the mountain. The message was clear. God is with us, God is for us, God loves us. His magnificent artistry shouts: “I am here!” and encourages us to ask for our daily bread. We can lock our eyes on His word, the Bible, and receive his power within our souls. When we turn to him and seek Christ with all our hearts, the Father will embrace us and extend grace and truth as He gives us exactly what we really need. Let God expand your horizons by feeding us his word each day. And “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free!” John 8:32.- Forgive us our debts – forgiveness so important to God. Too often we hold on to past hurts only to find we’re the ones who lose because of our unforgiveness. Forgiveness is not a doormat to another’s bad choices, and it always has the by-products of grace, mercy, and truth. Forgiveness sets us free from all bad choices.Let me encourage you to forgive three ways:1. Seek God’s forgiveness. None of us is perfect; we all fail and stand in need of God’s grace.2. Search your mind – consciously forgive anyone who has wronged you. This is the path to real peace.3. Forgive yourself. Don’t beat yourself up for past bad choices. Let that past go.- Lead us not into temptation – God does not tempt us. People do, Satan does, and we tempt ourselves. Temptations encourage us to make bad, hurtful choices. So when we’re tempted, what do we do? Know that the temptation is not from God and that he desires the best for us.- Know yourself and that which tempts you the most – then run from it!- Know Jesus Christ wants to help you. The Bible says, “Call upon me in the day of your trouble; I will deliver you,” Psalm 50:15.- Turn to true friends and be honest with them; enlist their help in the battle for your mind. There really is a spiritual battle for your soul. Praying God’s way helps us live the truth and sets you free from results of all poor choices. We’re not perfect, but there is one who is – Jesus Christ! He longs to walk with you through the struggles life deals us. Today, commit to pray God’s way and let go of your past notions of prayer. Will God answer? Absolutely! His way, his timing, and his absolute best for you. Remember – “The Lord will fight for you – you need only to be still,” Exodus 14:14.Gary Wingo leads a gathering of Seekers meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sundays at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards.Vail, Colorado
