A local construction company’s kickball tournament this summer raised more than $10,000 for an organization that serves children who are victims of abuse, neglect and domestic conflict.

Evans Chaffee’s Second Annual Kickball Classic and Pancake Breakfast was held in Eagle-Vail Aug. 23 to support Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA.All proceeds from this event have been presented to Debby Webster, founder of CASA of the Continental Divide founder.

“The funds given us from Evans Chaffee will enable us to continue with the services we provide and will help us open up some new areas of service,” Webster said. “We are honored to have been Evans Chaffee’s recipient this year.

“Not only are we impressed with the amount raised, we were impressed with how their entire team pulled together and found creative solutions for every challenge faced,” Webster said.

CASA is a volunteer-based organization. The children who come into contact with CASA are children who have been victimized by their families or family members. CASA works to break the pattern of abuse to give these young people a chance, Webster says.

Trained CASA volunteers, who are appointed by the judge in these cases, work with these children in an effort to assure that they don’t languish in foster care, that they are safe while in foster care-and that they reach a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible, Webster says.

“All of us at Evans Chaffee are pleased to be able to help out such a worthy cause,” said Beth Christie, business manager for Evans Chaffee. “Aside from the money raised, we are excited about the exposure generated for CASA and hope that as a result, it will continue to get the community support it needs to provide such a valuable service.”
