Kickball Classic returns Saturday to Eagle-Vail
AVON — The Evans Chaffee Kickball Classic and Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for its 12th running on Saturday at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion. The fundraiser this year benefits SummerQuest, a local organization that provides an educational program to help at-risk kids in Eagle County.
“We are so excited to be involved in this year’s event,” said Liana Sideli, director of SummerQuest. “Evans Chaffee and all the employees are so involved in our community, and we are thrilled to have them hosting this year’s Kickball Classic for our benefit. It’s going to mean so much for our program and the kids we’ll be able to positively influence.”
The previous 11 Evans Chaffee Kickball Classics have generated more than $175,000 for local nonprofits. Past beneficiaries have included the Eagle County Women’s Shelter, Meet the Wilderness, the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, Small Champions and Food Rescue Express.
“One of the core values of our business is giving back to the community,” said Andy Halminski, a partner at Evans Chaffee Construction Group. “The Kickball Classic is a fun way to do that, and a great time to get together with friends and family for some intense kickball competition.”
Halminski also said that another favorite of the event, blueberry pancakes, would be back on the menu this year. “A couple of years ago I suggested that we add blueberry pancakes. They handed me the spatula, and I’ve been making them for the event ever since. The recipe comes from an old bed and breakfast in Maine, where my wife and I both have roots, so these are authentic and darn good.”
The Pancake Breakfast begins at 7 a.m., with the double-elimination Kickball Classic starting at 8 a.m. Lunch will be available at 11 a.m. Tickets for both breakfast and lunch are on sale now, or may be purchased at the event.
