Kids turkey hunting season extended in Colorado
CORTEZ, Colorado ” With a record number of wild turkeys in Colorado, youth hunting season has been extended through the weekend.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife has extended the hunting season through Sunday for hunters under 18. It’s the first time the fall youth season has been extended.
Last year, about 11,000 people hunted turkeys for a total of approximately 46,000 hunting days during Colorado’s spring season.
Wildlife officials say wild turkeys have never been more prevalent in Colorado. The state is home to the native Merriam’s turkey and the Rio Grande turkey, which was introduced. The Merriam’s turkey is the largest game bird in North America.
