EAGLE COUNTY ” Young volunteers spread out across the county Monday to participate in National Youth Service Day.

More than 40 kids from local schools, the Gypsum Church, the Youth Leadership Council and the Cub Scout volunteered at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, at the Golden Eagle Senior Center and for the town of Gypsum.

Students at the alpine gardens helped prepare for spring planting while kids in Gypsum picked up trash. At the Golden Eagle Senior Center, the volunteers pulled weeds among other spring cleaning activities.

The volunteers also made posters for Thembanathi, an AIDS and HIV awareness organization that raises money for African orphans.

If you would like to participate in the next volunteer event, Family Service Day, which is scheduled for November, contact Tammi Matthews at 328-8843.
