Know your own backyard?

Daily Staff Report

With its 5,289 acres, 193 trails, 34 lifts and the seven Back Bowls, many longtime local skiers don’t even know every nook and cranny of Vail, North America’s largest single-mountain ski resort.

The ski company, however, is offering a local’s discount, of sorts, for the two-day Vail3 program, allowing skiers to explore the three faces of Vail Mountain with a certified instructor – for half price. The offer is good, however, only today and Sunday or Tuesday-Wednesday. Alpine intermediate and advanced skiers, levels 6 to 9, can participate in Vail3 for only $95, which includes two days of lessons with an option to extend for a third day. Groups meet at the Mid-Vail Ski School meeting area at 9:45 a.m.

“It’s nice to show something new to people. We all get stuck in ruts,” says Bill Davis, one of several instructors with Vail3 “This’ll be fun, and maybe the locals will show me something new.”
