TRUCKEE, Calif. — Mother Nature wreaked all kinds of havoc on the Sierra Nevada and Tahoe-Truckee region the past few days.

A series of very windy and wet storms since Thursday sparked dangerous wildfires in the region; doused the region in plenty of precipitation; caused several big-rig wrecks on Interstate 80 that caused hours of travel delays all weekend along; and, on a more positive note, provided as much as 6 or more inches of snow to upper elevation areas.

On Monday, Northstar California ski resort between Truckee and North Lake Tahoe reported received 6 inches of snow overnight Sunday, while Heavenly and Kirkwood resorts, located on and near the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, both reported 3 to 6 inches.

It serves as “Mother Nature’s reminder not to wait on securing season passes for a winter full of fun and powder turns,” according to a Vail Resorts press release.

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, meanwhile, reported that 1-3 inches had fallen as of 10:45 a.m.

In a Monday afternoon statement, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, located between Incline Village and Reno, reported between 7 inches and 18 inches of snow fell at the resort (at the base and upper-mountain, respectively) between Thursday and Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, rain/snow and winds are expected to die off Monday in the Truckee-Tahoe region.

From there, sunny skies are expected to return by Wednesday, and high temperatures into the ‘60s should return by Thursday.
