Landing gear failure closes airport

GYPSUM – The runway at Eagle County Regional Airport was shut down Saturday evening for about an hour after a small private jet’s landing gear failed to work when it was landing.No one was injured in the accident and there was no fire, said Sgt. David Lawson of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. “Right when it started landing the landing gear didn’t work properly,” Lawson said.The plane skidded until it came to a stop, Lawson said. The runway was closed at about 6 p.m. for the cleanup and removal of the plane, Lawson said.Three commercial flights and one private flight were delayed because of the crash, Lawson said.The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and will investigate the crash, Lawson said.Multicar accidents close I-70VAIL – Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed for a short time Sunday afternoon at the main Vail after a multi-car accident.The closure was due to three separate accidents involving 10 cars at an icy spot between the main Vail and the East Vail exits, said Sgt. Dirk Etheridge of the Vail Police Department.No one was injured, Etheridge said.The interstate closed at about 3:15 p.m. and reopened at about 4 p.m., said Sgt.
