Larkspur lift remains closed following evacuation
A Beaver Creek chairlift that 240 passengers had to be evacuated from Sunday remained closed Wednesday as specialists tried to fix the problem.
Christina Schleicher, Vail Resorts communications manager, said specialists were looking at the drive components for the Larkspur Bowl lift, or Chair 11. Resort officials had to evacuate the lift when both of the lift’s power sources failed.
Ski patrollers used a T-bar-type device to bring skiers and snowboarders down from the lift. A seat is raised up to the passenger and then they are slowly lowered to the ground.
The 21/2-hour evacuation was the first ever at Beaver Creek.
In the meantime, skiers and snowboarders can’t access the intermediate and expert terrain in Larkspur Bowl because of the closure.
However, Schleicher said the rest of the resort’s lifts are open and skiers can still access the Bachelor’s Gulch and Arrowhead ski areas on the mountain’s west side by using the Strawberry Park lift at the base of the main mountain.
