Larry Sanford, 36, dies at his Eagle home

Daily Staff Report

Eagle resident Larry Sanford died at his home Thursday. Sanford, who was 36, worked for the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District.

Sanford is the son of the late Larry Sanford Sr., and Maureen Backe (Sanford) of Ventura. He is the brother of Scott Sanford and Lisa Dettloff (Sanford).

Family and friends say Larry Sanford was a “very special man blessed with a calm disposition that put others at ease.”

“He had a beautiful smile and a genuine laugh that made everyone in his presence laugh with him,” family and friends said. “His eyes were more blue than the sky and radiated an internal peace and a soul filled with happiness.”

Sanford’s family included his wife, Tammy, his first born son, Steven, 16, and his twin sons Andrew and Garret, 12. He and Tammy had been together 16 years, friends said.

Sanford participated in off-road adventures, camping, fishing and motorcycle riding with his family, family and friends said.

He also enjoyed participating in his sons’ sporting events, school activities and other adventures, family and friends said.

Sanford was a resident of Ventura, Calif., before moving to Eagle County in the fall of 2001.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, at Farnum Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
