Last day for Avon spring clean-up
Today is the last day Avon residents may arrange for town employees to pickup unwanted items at their homes.
The town has been sponsoring a cleanup week since Monday. Residents may schedule a time with the public works department to have an employee pick up unwanted things. All items must be placed curbside. The staff will take the items to the Eagle County Landfill. The last pick-up time is 2 p.m today.
The town also is offering free garbage bags, which may be picked up at the Avon Fire Station, 351 Benchmark Road; the Wildridge Fire Station, 2110 Saddleridge Loop Road; Avon Public Works Department, 500 Swift Gulch Road; and the Avon Recreation Center, 325 Benchmark Road.
The public works department will take almost anything except tires or hazardous and toxic waste items such as paints, motor oil and batteries. Refrigerators will only be accepted with documentation indicating that a certified technician has removed the freon. Refrigerator doors must also be removed.

Additionally, Eagle County is offering free access to the landfill for the purpose of disposing spring clean-up waste on Saturday. The landfill will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for residential dumping. For more information, contact Eagle County Solid Waste at 926-3626 or 926-3125.
