Laura Newman Trio will play Farmers’ Market Sunday

VAIL – Free outdoor jazz concerts return to the Vail Farmers’ Market Sunday, featuring the musical talent of the Laura Newman Trio. Known for top notch musicianship, this jazz trio offers an extensive repertoire of original jazz compositions, classic hits, standards, R&B, acid jazz, funk and pop tunes. “We take pride in making a connection with the audience,” said lead Laura Newman. “We use upbeat tunes and realize we are entertainers as well as musicians – our playing style keeps them coming back for more.”Newman, on saxophone, is joined by Vlad Girshevich on keyboard and Matt Amundson on drums. The Vail Jazz Foundation presents the blues, standards, vocals and straight-ahead jazz at the Vail Farmers’ Market from noon to 3:30 p.m. weekly. Next week’s concert features locals’ favorite the Tony Gulizia Trio, with Gulizia on keyboard and vocals, Allan Finney on drums and Tom Kirk on saxophone. Wrapping up a summer of jazz, the Vail Jazz Festival presents the 16th annual Labor Day Weekend Jazz Party from Sept. 2-6 at the Vail Marriott and in Vail Square in Lionshead. The event features over 30 artists including Ann Hampton Callaway, Jeff Hamilton Trio, Wycliffe Gordon, Byron Stripling and many other great jazz musicians.
