Lawmakers consider 100 oil and gas drilling rules
DENVER, Colorado ” Lawmakers at the state Capitol are considering about 100 new rules governing the state’s oil and gas industry.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission drafted the rules after meetings across the state to get recommendations from local residents.
The new rules will be reviewed by the legislature’s Committee on Legal Services and must be approved by lawmakers before they can take effect.
Opponents say the rules could strangle what’s left of the state’s oil and gas industry, which has fallen off sharply with the slump in prices. Opponents also say the proposed rules are driving companies to other states.
Supporters say the rules are needed to protect Colorado’s environment and the tourism industry.
