Learn about libations for all occasions at Larkspur

VAIL ” Larkspur’s wine university branches out into the magic of mixology this week with a special seminar on cocktails. Beverage Director Josh Stevenson will take the mystery out of blending thirst-quenching libations for all occasions.

The stage will be set at the Larkspur Bar on Thursday and seating is limited to the bar stools for an intimate presentation. From 6 to 7 p.m. students will take a hands-on approach to mixology. The cost is $40 per person.

Stevenson is known for his sense of humor, so this seminar is bound to be fun. But he takes his work seriously and looks forward to sharing the answers to questions he hears often. Stirred or shaken? How do I stock my bar? What are the best cocktails for a crowd? How do I create a cocktail? What is the science of blending? How should I choose ingredients? What’s the right garnish? How do I decide which glass to use?



Students can expect active participation in the cocktail seminar, from making, shaking and straining the drinks to sampling them. In addition, Stevenson will provide an information packet including recipes to take home.

Wine University will continue with a traditional wine seminar on Aug. 7 with a syrah-bration. Also coming in August will be a harvest dinner featuring a multi-course dinner focused on the Colorado harvest, and paired with wines from Palisade’s Canyon Wind Cellars. Details will be announced soon.
