Learn more about Pink Vail at Tuesday launch party
VAIL CO, Colorado
With so many walk/run for the cure events, it was just a matter of time until a ski/snowboard event joined the mix. On March 3, Vail will host Pink Vail, an all-mountain ski/snowboard day and concert, the Vail Valley Medical Center announced last week. The event benefits breast cancer programs and resources at Shaw Regional Cancer Center. You can learn more about the event Tuesday night at the Pink Vail Launch Party at Arrabelle in Lionshead, or keep reading.
Similar to a summer breast cancer walk or run, participants ask friends and family to sponsor their day on a “pinkified” Vail Mountain. The ski day can be as leisurely or hard core as you please. For those looking for a challenge, check out the Checkpoint Challenge, during which participants “hunt” five Vail decks and earn prizes along the way.
After a day on the mountain, participants are invited to be a part of the “Celebration Ski Down” where cancer survivors, their family and friends, and those skiing in honor of a loved one will come together at Eagle’s Nest at 4 p.m. before skiing down Simba into Lionshead. This unifying run will kick off the evening in Arrabelle Square with a pink apres party, awards ceremony and concert.
English indie rock band Gomez will perform a free show. The band has opened for the Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam and played at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. Organizers are promising a “family-friendly” show, which will take place in Arrabelle Square.
There is no minimum dollar requirement to sign up online for the event, but individuals will need to raise $25 to officially participate. Raise funds as an individual or a team. Start a team today at http://www.pinkvail.com. Participants can track their fundraising progress through that site as well. Pink Vail proceeds directly benefit patient care and programs at Shaw Regional Cancer Center, the region’s only fully accredited cancer treatment and comprehensive breast center.
