This class is designed for all levels of painters – a beginner through advanced – and is open to oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel painters. Workshop goals include capturing light and color on location. Demonstrations will be in watercolor though individual instruction will be provided in all media.

The emphasis will be to develop paintings that show off the best of the media. Individual consultation will be a major part of the instruction. Mr. Owen has over 30 years of teaching experience from middle school to the college level. Experience the Vail Valley through your own creations.

The cost for this two-day workshop is $350 and can be purchased directly through Cogswell Gallery. Owen AWS/NWSAn artist and a teacher for over thirty years, Thomas J. Owen is a nationally recognized painter in watercolor, oil and pastel. His work ranges from landscapes to figurative and he enjoys developing designs from subjects such as steam locomotives, fishing boats, rustic architecture and intimate scenes from nature.

Mr. Owen has been elected to signature status in 10 watercolor societies including the American Watercolor Society (AWS) and the National Watercolor Society (NWS). He has received many major awards including the Mario Cooper and Dale Myers Medal (AWS), the Gold Medallion from the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolor, the Harriet Wexler Bartsch Award (NWS) and the National Watercolor Society Award from Watercolor West. A graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, Mr. Owen currently teaches painting to all levels of students at the Pikes Peak Community Collage and the Cottonwood Artists School in Colorado Springs, and conducts workshops across the United States. Mr. Owen’s work is found in many museum and corporate collections including: the American Numismatic Museum, the Columbia Museum of Art, ConAgra Foods, Gates Rubber, Deloitte & Touche, Kaiser Permanente, MCI WorldCom, Phelps Dodge Corporation, Wells Fargo, University of Colorado Hospital, Qwest, Swift and Co. and the Wichita Center for the Arts.In addition to the two-day workshop, Cogswell Gallery will exhibit new works by Thomas J. Owen beginning Saturday, Aug. 4th.
