Letter: Boo to Vail Daily basketball coverage
Vail CO, Colorado
I’m writing in regard to the article written by Chris Freud on January 16, 2008 on his coverage of the Battle Mountain Huskies vs. the Summit Tigers boys varsity basketball team.
First and foremost, what game did you attend? These are not NBA players! They play 32 minutes, not 48. So what if they didn’t accrue the high scores that you may have been looking for? They played a spirited and exciting game nonetheless. It was great to see the arena on its feet cheering on their teams in the spirit of the game. Those last four minutes were riveting to the more than 200 people in attendance.
I quote you Chris Freud, “Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” I think your eye was on that submarine sandwich you brought to the game rather than on your job. Does us a favor and eat BEFORE you come to work.
The event itself was important. Not only did it entertain, but it also brought several parents, classmates and friends together. There was a sense of community and spirit that I will not forget easily. The athletes on both teams gave their best when they played. I suggest you do the same Chris the next time you sit down to write. Accentuate the positive, pal. The sarcasm and apathy on your part is very apparent, but not too appealing.
